The Lovely Bones: fantasy will show you the wayMontag 12 April 2010
This film starring Rachel Weisz demonstrates how a grief, sorrow and the struggle to find a way out of a crisis can still be beautiful.
Susie Salmon is murdered - but she is not gone. Her spirit is in an in-between world, where she struggles with her emotions. She is trapped between her fear, hate and desire for vengeance, and her love for her family and desire to help them heal.
The director Peter Jackson, also responsible for the 4-times Oscar-nominated “District 9”, once again stands out with his artistic vision. At first sight, the in-between world is a land of wonders where souls are free and the usual physical laws and dimensions are optional. But it becomes clear that it is a beautiful allegory of the grief process, a world of memories held prisoner, while the mind is struggling with the loss of a loved one. It is the world of a family who lost a child and which is slowly going through the process of healing. The effect of the inspirational scenario and the director’s interpretation is amplified by the cast: with Mark Wahlberg as the father, Rachel Weisz as the mother, the young Saoirse Ronan as Susie, Susan Sarandon as the grandmother, and the barely recognizable Stanly Tucci as Susie’s killer.
