History Through Longmire’s LensMontag 8 Februar 2010
Scenes from Cuba photographed by British photographer Edward Longmire will not be there in five years time, he has forecast. His exhibition, Cuba Sí, is now on display in Berlin, until 26 February.
“Photographers are historians – we record what is there. But things change and sometimes a photograph is all that remains,” he said.
Longmire visited Cuba last year, travelling throughout the island, photographing scenes of every day life in its many different aspects. Longmire, who is also a documentary film-maker, has recently photographed the demolition of slums in Beijing and been fire-bombed in Tibet. The photograph is of young boys on The Malecón, Havana’s famous waterfront.
“Cuba Sí”, Photographs of Cuba on the Cusp, by Edward Longmire, is currently on exhibition at The Wall Gallery, Brunnenstrasse 39 in Berlin-Mitte, open 12 noon – 6 pm Tuesday to Saturday. Entrance is free.
