Bloom Energy, Power plant for private useThe new ecological energy source?Donnerstag 25 Februar 2010
Google, eBay, Wal-Mart and Staples are already using the potentially world changing invention. The individual power plant is finally revealed after 8 years of research and development.
The start-up Bloom Energy introduced their product today in a press conference held at eBay's San Jose headquarters. The revolutionary technology is an ecological promise kept to the energy industry. With 50% less carbon emission, the Bloom box uses a mixture of fuels, traditional or alternative, and oxygen to provide electricity.
According to the CEO and co-founder of Bloom Energy K.R. Sridhar, this invention will have “the same kind of impact on energy that the mobile phone had on communications”. The future of power distribution is in smaller, smarter energy sources. The efficiency advantage of the new Bloom box over the classic utilities is 2 to 1. The inventors are hoping that the little box will be a natural presence in most of the American households by 2020. Although it is still not available for individual use, the products' estimated cost for a private home is about $3,000 (2,225 EUR). The price for commercial-use box is between $700,000 and $800,000 (520,000 -600,000 EUR). Yana Radulova
