Agora: Heavens in Turmoil

Agora- Die Säulen des Himmels directed by Academy Award Winner Alejandro Amenàbar, celebratedfor movies like The Others, is a gripping narrative about the eternal conflict between religion and science.

The story of Hypatia, a female philosopher in Roman Egypt, is portrayed by Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz, and takes place in Alexandria in 391 AD.
Hypatia, a philosophers’ daughter, is a beautiful, young and clever teacher of maths and astronomy, adored by her pupils.

But when it comes to a religious war between Gentiles and Christianity, Hypatia, whose modern ideas cause suspicion among her colleagues, is caught in the middle.
Her growing passion for science and her elementary questions about the solar system turn it into her personal war - she fights for her doctrine and for the truth.
Agora- Die Säulen des Himmels opens on Thursday, 11. March in German cinemas.
